There are many methods to harvest rain water. The most
efficient methods are based upon the premise of catching the rain prior to it
hitting the ground.
We will cover two methods for brevity sake:
1. Stationary catchment
system at a home or dwelling
2. Mobile catchment.
The basic premise is this:
·
Create a non-permeable layer
o
Roof
o
Tarp
o
Poncho
o
Tent
·
Create a conduit to drain the water into a holding tank
·
Perform primary screen filtration at entrance to the holding tank
o
Remove large objects and debris
·
Utilize a spigot or tap on the bottom of the tank in order to
dispense the water
·
PracticeSurvival recommends utilizing a wound sediment filter on
the output followed by an activated carbon filter for general use
o
For drinking, cooking and oral care we recommend the addition of
either RO, hollow fiber or a ceramic candle to purify the water
