What Drives People to Prepare
The Quest for Preparedness
Human nature dictates that we act to resolve threats, attain a resolution and move on. Whether on the world stage (politically) or in our private lives permanent peace and security is simply a pipe dream. As long as there are two people on earth there will be conflict. Threats posed by our interaction and cohabitation with others are rarely resolved; they are merely muted until they rise again. Such a fact flies in direct conflict with the innate desire of humans to "move on". Aggressors or challengers will retreat only to impose again until they are dead or have succeeded. That is poses the most vexing challenge for governments, law enforcement and individuals. Preparedness and survival is a moving and ever changing target. The only way to truly protect yourself and those you care about is to be actively engaged in constantly maintaining preparedness, being flexible, vigilant and aware.

People want an easy answer (See article - the nature of humans), so they are happy to accept the first solution that they encounter which seems to "fix the problem". Ignoring the previous paragraph's point is perilous. Unfortunately the desire to "rest calmly" overrides logical thought, so people buy guns, join a paramilitary group or "hook up" with ex-military types who have strong defense rhetoric, others immerse themselves in bushcrafting. These activities give them a sense of engagement and hence security.

The fact is no single skill set, tool, or group will guarantee your survival. You need a well balanced rounded set of skills and approach that will make you secure through practiced skills, quality gear, trusted community and above all well developed skills at mindset of self reliance.
