Edged Tools
Safety First Where Edged Tools are in Hand

Hatchets and axes are edged tools designed primarily for chopping, cleaving and hewing. Basically they are employed by swinging them in a controlled manner (hopefully) in very precise targeted way. As with a sword or machete, safety should be the first order of business. Because these tools appear to be crude and not complicated many people believe that there is no training or skill required in order to use them.

All you have to do is stand back and watch a person wield a hatchet, ax or machete and you will see why safety should be the foremost on the user and everyone surrounding the user’s minds. There is a sharp edge on the end of a handle from 10 inches to 3 feet long swinging through the air at an object often of irregular shape, surface and density.
