Lenski Ground Breaking Postulates in Sociology
Lenski tracked history, attempting to apply the theories of others that came before him. The following were his findings:
- Societal extinction indeed occurs
- The process of sociocultural evolution is basically a cumulative process
- Change and innovation are added far more rapidly to the system than older elements are eliminated
- Sociocultural systems grow more complex over time as a result of the imbalance. Similar to computer programs and operating systems that become larger and larger, bloated, and more complex as they evolve
- Newcomers to the same arena often tout their lean more sleek products.
- The “newcomer” is
- “Evolution while supporting the older” is a nearly perfect analogy for society. Unburdened by the demand to support compatibility with the previous versions, the newcomer is free to innovate and move much more quickly and efficiently.
